Tiny seeds in small hands -simple moments, meaningful lessons. At Akshayakalpa ‘Good Food for Schools’ (GFS) program, students sow seeds with care, learning that every fresh leaf begins in the soil. As they prepare the raised beds, they understand the importance of healthy soil - realizing that it is not just mud, but the foundation of all food. They explore how food begins from the ground up -preparing raised beds, adding compost, and learning how healthy soil supports healthy plants. Through this, they realize that food doesn’t simply arrive on our plates, it takes care, preparation, and effort. Through this experience, they also begin to appreciate the dedication of farmers, the patience, hard work, and trust in nature that goes into every harvest. By the 8th week of the GFS Program the children witness the plants germinate and bloom, ready for harvest. This becomes the elixir moment for everyone: teachers, children, and parents, a proud and happy moment to cherish. At Tenbroeck Academy, Bangalore, this hands-on activity with children became more than gardening. It became a real lesson in patience, responsibility, respect for farmers, and a deeper connection to food and nature.
